INAUGURATION CEREMONY CELEBRATES AFGHANISTAN'S FIRST POST-WAR VOCATIONAL SCHOOL KABUL, AFGHANISTAN- Earlier this month cabinet members and other government officials attended the inauguration of the Afghanistan Technical Vocational Institute (ATVI), the country's first post#45;war vocational school built and administered by Knowlogy International. Located in Kart#45;e#45;Char, Kabul, the school educates both men and women in skills critical to the future of Afghanistan. The inaugural event was attended by Afghanistan's Ministers of Education, Finance, and Economy, as well as members of the diplomatic community, international donors and prominent business owners. Speakers included Minister of Education Mohammad Haneef Atmar, Chairman of Knowlogy International and CEO of ANHAM, LLC A. Huda Farouki, and the Executive Director of ATVI Sardar Roshan. ATVI opened its doors last spring to 622 new students from Kabul and other urban and rural regions in Afghanistan. The school was developed in response to the Afghan Ministry of Education's desire to address Afghanistan's critical skill shortfall in construction, horticulture, automotive mechanics, and information technology. Presently, jobs in these areas are being filled by foreign labor, or not at all. "Knowlodgy's collaboration with the Afghan Ministry of Education to create ATVI is a great model of a successful public-private partnership," said Knowlogy Chairman and ANHAM CEO A. Huda Farouki. "This school will have a tremendous impact on Afghanistan, as it will help graduates gain employment and salaries far above their current level, and allow them to take an active role in the rebuilding of Afghanistan." The concept of ATVI was developed by Knowlogy Chairman A. Huda Farouki, and Ishaq Shahryar, former Afghan Ambassador to the United States and now Chairman of ATVI.
